Georges St-Pierre Offers Honest Advice to Conor McGregor Before UFC Return

Georges St-Pierre has a message for Conor McGregor as the former UFC double champion prepares for his comeback. After a five-year absence, “The Notorious” is set to return to the octagon on July 11 at UFC 329, where he will face Max Holloway in the main event. Their first encounter saw McGregor secure a unanimous decision victory, even with an ACL tear during the fight. However, this time, McGregor enters as the underdog due to his prolonged inactivity, while Holloway has remained exceptionally active, amassing impressive wins against top featherweights and lightweights.

This highly anticipated rematch between McGregor and Holloway will be a five-round welterweight bout, marking Holloway’s debut in the 170-pound division.

Georges St-Pierre’s Advice for Conor McGregor Ahead of UFC 329

Before “The Notorious” steps back into the octagon on July 11, “GSP” has shared some advice for him. In an interview with Mike Bohn, Georges St-Pierre urged Conor McGregor to push himself beyond his comfort zone during his training camp. He recommended sparring with individuals he hasn’t trained with before, to become accustomed to the unpredictability of a fight. St-Pierre believes this will better prepare McGregor for any scenario when he faces Holloway.

“You need to make sure when you prepare yourself that you recreate that environment and that level of discomfort that you will face. If you stay in your comfort zone during your training camp, it’s not good. You need to make sure you bring guys who will make you uncomfortable. I’m not only talking about skills and sparring. Sometimes it’s good to bring guys that you’ve never trained with, and you have the butterflies, and you don’t know how they move. They’re dirty, and they’re going to try to hurt me. It’s important.”

During the interview, “GSP” expressed that it would be disheartening to see “The Notorious” return and not perform at his previous level. To prevent such an outcome, the 45-year-old Canadian advised the Irishman to fully commit, prepare with all his might, and give his absolute best leading up to and on the night of July 11. He added:

“It would break my heart to see him come back and not be as good as he was or close to what he was… Conor comes back for big things. He doesn’t come back for small things… He can do it. It’s gonna be interesting.”
