Movsar Evloev Appears Set for Long-Awaited Title Shot

Undefeated fighter Movsar Evloev has indicated that he is scheduled to face the current two-time UFC featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski, this summer.

Following his victory over Diego Lopes in a rematch at UFC 325, Volkanovski has reportedly informed the UFC of his intention to defend his title against Evloev in August or September. The Australian champion recently signed a new UFC contract and has expressed no immediate plans for retirement.

While there were earlier rumors suggesting Jean Silva might be next in line for a title opportunity, Evloev’s impressive performance against Lerone Murphy at UFC London seemingly captured the attention of UFC matchmakers.

Volkanovski himself had stated after his last fight that he would only face deserving top contenders and would not support the fast-tracking or gifting of title shots. Evloev has now seemingly confirmed his position as the next challenger by posting on X (formerly Twitter): “End of the summer, and new Inshallah.”

Alexander Volkanovski Challenges Movsar Evloev to Attempt Takedowns

Earlier this year, during an interview, Alexander Volkanovski expressed his desire to test himself against formidable undefeated contenders like Movsar Evloev and to end Evloev’s undefeated streak. Volkanovski specifically urged Evloev to utilize all his skills, including wrestling, when they eventually meet, stating he doesn’t want any excuses from the challenger afterward.

Volkanovski further challenged Evloev, saying, “I want him to try to take me down—because I won’t let it happen.”

Evloev, however, appears confident he can defeat “The Great” without relying solely on his wrestling. He responded to Volkanovski’s challenge on X by stating, “I’ll never make excuses. I truly don’t believe I need wrestling to beat you.”
