The Winnipeg Jets have claimed goaltender Clay Stevenson off waivers from the Washington Capitals. This move addresses the Jets' thin goaltending depth following Connor Hellebuyck's trade request and subsequent suspension, with Stuart Skinner now serving as the primary starter.
Stevenson, 27, appeared in four games for the Capitals last season, recording a 3-1-0 record, a 2.00 goals-against average (GAA), and a .921 save percentage (SV%). He spent most of the season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Hershey Bears. There, he achieved an 18-13-3 record, a 2.62 GAA, and a .912 SV%. He was also part of Hershey's 2024 Calder Cup championship team.
Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 195 pounds, Stevenson was undrafted. Throughout his AHL career, all with Hershey, he has posted strong statistics: a 63-39-1 record, a 2.50 GAA, a .909 SV%, and nine shutouts.
Stevenson is in the final year of a three-year contract valued at $800,000 annually. He will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
The Jets will kick off their 2026-27 season on Friday, October 2nd. They will host the Boston Bruins at Canada Life Centre.
