Raoni Barcelos has shared his thoughts following his alarming knockout defeat at UFC Vegas 121.
Barcelos was leading on all scorecards entering the final round against Raul Rosas Jr. on Saturday. However, the fight took a dramatic turn when Rosas secured a takedown, and Barcelos lost consciousness. He was subsequently stretchered from the arena.
Initial reports from the UFC and Barcelos' coach offered reassurance, easing concerns. Now, the veteran fighter has issued his first statement. Speaking on the UFC Brasil Instagram page, Barcelos appeared upbeat.
“Hello everyone, I want to inform you that I am doing well and will send a video as soon as possible!” Barcelos stated. “Thank you for all the love and prayers! I committed to a great fight, and I kept that promise. Thanks be to God and everyone who supported me, both inside and outside the cage.”
There's speculation that an accidental head clash with Rosas to Barcelos' chin caused the knockout. Some are advocating for the result to be overturned to a no contest, though no decision has been announced.
Prior to this match, Barcelos had won five consecutive fights. It's uncertain when the 39-year-old will be able to return to the Octagon, but for now, the outcome of UFC Vegas 121 has not resulted in a tragedy.
