UFC Lightweight Champion Ilia Topuria has launched a strong verbal attack on fellow contender Arman Tsarukyan, characterizing him as immature and lacking genuine status.
Topuria, who holds the undisputed UFC lightweight title, is scheduled to face interim champion Justin Gaethje in a title unification bout at UFC Fight Night 250 on June 14. The event is set to be a significant one, taking place on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C.
Topuria claimed the 155-pound championship by knocking out Charles Oliveira at UFC 317. While many anticipated Arman Tsarukyan to be the next challenger, the UFC introduced an interim title at UFC 324 during Topuria’s absence. Justin Gaethje secured this interim belt by defeating Paddy Pimblett, earning his shot at the undisputed title.
In the interim, Tsarukyan has remained active through various grappling and wrestling competitions, all while engaging in a war of words with Topuria via social media and interviews, anticipating his opportunity for UFC gold.
Topuria Criticizes Tsarukyan’s Conduct and Persona
During a recent interview on “The Ariel Helwani Show,” Ilia Topuria shared his unflattering assessment of Arman Tsarukyan, particularly his actions outside the UFC. While acknowledging Tsarukyan’s skills inside the octagon, Topuria expressed disdain for his recent behavior and the image he projects online.
“I’m genuinely surprised by how unintelligent he is,” Topuria stated. “He seems like a child. His mindset is juvenile. Everything I see about him online is embarrassing. Who cares about Arman? What I dislike is when they try to portray themselves as wealthy, flaunting their money. Man, you’re not even rich. The only thing you possess is money, and you’re spending your father’s money, not even your own. He’s just a kid.”
Ilia Topuria has not fought since his decisive victory over Charles Oliveira. The 29-year-old undefeated fighter, with a professional record of 17-0, boasts an impressive 9-0 record in the UFC, with notable wins against Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway, and Bryce Mitchell.
Arman Tsarukyan’s last appearance in the Octagon was at UFC Qatar in November, where he achieved a second-round submission win over Dan Hooker, extending his winning streak to five. Tsarukyan holds a professional record of 23-3, including a 10-2 record in the UFC, with significant victories over Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush.
